Facebook Is Rolling Out 'Instant Games' To All Messenger Users

Instant Games on Messenger

There are about 1.2 billion Facebook Messenger users. On May 2nd, 2017, Facebook is rolling out Instant Games to that many users.

The company is also launching features that was previously exclusive on the 2017's F8 conference. These include rich gameplay features that allow developers to create unique and sophisticated experiences and Game bots to help them surface exciting features like new levels and rewards.

With the features, Facebook wants developers to start taking advantage to create more dynamic and engaging gaming experiences.

The rich gameplay features include turn-based games, which was one of Facebook's most requested feature, that can also weave in leaderboards and tournaments. Facebook also started offering more visually engaging and customizable game messages during game play.

The role of Game bots is to help re-engage players by calling out new game options and encouraging competition with updates on the leaderboards.

One of the first games to take the advantage of the rich gameplay features is Words With Friends from Zynga.

Messenger - Instant Games

Facebook first launched Instant Games to Messenger in the U.S. in 2016. It included games like Pac-Man, Space Invaders, and Galaga.

The games that are available on Messenger are required any downloading, and users can play them directly from the Messenger app itself.

The new Instant Games on Messenger is rolling out over the weeks worldwide for users on both iOS and Android. Depending on the devices owned by users and where they're located, there are up to 50 games title users can choose from on Messenger. Facebook said that it is adding more in almost every week.
