
The messaging app is taking cues from the social titan Facebook by introducing a colorful feature.
When users want to create a Status update, the update redesigns it with colorful text and background. Similar to Facebook. As users share the Status update, they have the option to select the font and background color of the Status update.
Pictures of the feature show the status will also display links.
According to a WhatsApp spokesperson:

In the cheerful update, WhatsApp colored text-based Status update feature is aimed to its more than 250 million monthly users, making experience just a bit more fun with colors.
Partially, the feature allows users to update their contacts in a more personal way.
Alongside the update, WhatsApp also announced features where users can control who can see their Status updates. In the privacy settings, users have the option to choose the people who can view their update. They can select one out the three following options: My contacts, contact except, and only share with.
To see who have viewed the Status update, users can tap on the eye icon at the bottom of any Status update to view a list of contacts who have seen the Status.
And to reply an update, there is a reply button where people can comment on any photo, video, or GIF. Once they tap reply, their message will be sent in a WhatsApp chat with a thumbnail of the status update.
The feature is rolling out to users using iOS and Android, and also on users using its web client.
