Online auctions are a fascinating world where people sell a wide variety of items, from everyday household goods to rare collectibles.
From whatever pop culture has under its sleeves, like the 100-ton hammer from City Hunter topping a Japanese charity, a criminal’s Yu-Gi-Oh! card that reached astronomical price, and more.
Not to mention a knockoff Louis Vuitton handbag that is sold at a much expensive price than the original due to its size, the Tupac Shakur ring that was sold to a fan, and a family that bought a World War II battleship through an online auction to preserve history, a $168 million gigayacht sold on eBay, and an honorable mention to Mark Cuban who made it to Guinness World Records for purchasing a private jet through the internet in 1999.
This time, yet another record has been written.
In this era where people are connected to the internet, and e-commerce has become part of the global economy, the time when binge buying has become a norm, high-dollar car sales aren’t as impressive as they used to be.
Cars worth hundreds of thousands of dollars, ranging from sportscars to supercars seem to change hands constantly through online auctions and shops.
But at least until this time, nothing compares to Supercar Blondie’s new auction site SBX Cars, which just set a new benchmark for expensive cars sold online.
This is because a 2015 Lamborghini Veneno Roadster has been sold on the platform for an eyewatering $6 million, breaking the record for online auction car prices.
It's worth noting that all Lamborghinis command a premium price.
Even the cheapest Lamborghinis are relatively expensive, especially when compared to other cars.
This Lamborghini however, is different.
What makes this special, is the number of Veneno Roadsters Lamborghini ever produced.
The first thing that makes the Veneno Roadster so special that someone was literally willing to break an auction record to have it, is its rarity.
The Veneno was created to celebrate 50 years of Lamborghini when it launched in 2013. And by launching a car during such a special occasion, means that the car is limited in number.
And this is proven true, because according to reports, the Italian carmaker only produced 14 units of the Lamborghini Venenos.
This limited production run includes 3 coupes, 9 roadsters, and 2 prototypes.
And out of the nine Veneno Roadsters were ever made, this one was the second Roadster built, and was originally sold to a member of Saudi Arabia’s royal family.
And because many rich people who collect cars just collect without driving them, this car has only travelled 1,778 kilometers.

When new, the roadster hypercar went on sale for €3,300,000 (excluding tax).
And this time, the car fetched a price that is about twice as much as when it was new, and sold online to one lucky, rich buyer.
That’s $6 million does not include fees for the auction,
If the car is to be road-legal, the buyer has to pay taxes, title, and registration fees.

Just like all three Veneno Roadsters, the car sold at SBX Cars is painted in Grigio Metalluro.
But in this car, the Grigio Metalluro has a green accent, which can be seen throughout the car, including the interior.

The roadster variant of the Lamborghini Veneno, was first unveiled on the Italian naval aircraft carrier Cavour docked in Abu Dhabi's Mina Zayed port in 2014.
Performance-wise, the roadster remains identical to that of the coupé, in which it sports an engine from the Aventador's 6.5-litre V12, which generates a power output of 750 PS (552 kW; 740 hp) at 8,400 rpm and 690 N⋅m (509 lb⋅ft) of torque at 5,500 rpm.
The increase in power was achieved by enlarging the air intakes and modifying the exhaust system.
The Veneno is Lamborghini's interpretation of a racing prototype built for the road, and this explains the extreme arches and aerodynamics that are meant to maximum airflow and improved downforce.
The roadster is 50 kilograms heavier than the coupé counterpart due to chassis reinforcing components.
It's worth noting that this very car, back in 2020, was listed at auction, but failed to sell, with a then-estimated selling price of $4.8 million.
And if that isn't enough, rumors suggest that SBX Cars could soon break this record because the auction site just received another Lamborghini Veneno, but this one is just one of the three coupés ever made.
What's more, it's only driven a few hundred kilometers.
