Anthropic Introduces Claude On iOS, And A 'Team' Tier To Compete With OpenAI

Anthropic Team

The AI industry barely made ripples outside its realm, and caught the interest of people other than enthusiasts and developers alike.

But since OpenAI introduced ChatGPT, the company created a hype about generative AI, that pretty much all tech companies out there, big and small, wouldn't want to miss. And Anthropic is one of the handful of AI developers that can go neck-and-neck with OpenAI.

Despite being an underdog, Anthropic managed to sank its teeth deep into the competition.

In fact, the company claims that its Claude 3 product outperforms ChatGPT's GPT-4 in its own game.

This time, Anthropic is again trying to compete against OpenAI in a game the latter created, by introducing its second paid tier.

Anthropic calls is the 'Team' plan.

In its announcement, Anthropic said that Team offers:

  • Increased usage: Provides greater usage per user compared to our Pro plan, enabling every teammate to significantly increase the number of chats they can have with Claude.
  • Access to the Claude 3 model family: Offers the full Claude 3 model family—including Opus, Sonnet, and Haiku—providing teams and business users a suite of cutting-edge AI models tailored for different use cases. Choose the best-suited model for your specific business needs.
  • 200K context window: Enables businesses to process long documents (e.g., research papers, legal contracts), discuss complex topics (e.g., financial forecasting, product roadmapping), and maintain multi-step conversations (e.g., customer support inquiries, project planning discussions), helping individuals and teams gain deeper insights from their data.
  • Admin tools and billing management: Introduces administrative tools to conveniently control user and billing management for easier onboarding and less overhead.
  • Everything in Pro: Includes all Claude Pro features including priority access during high-traffic periods, early access to new features, greater usage rates, and more.

In an attempt to capture more corporate money, this paid plan is aimed towards enterprises, including those in highly regulated industries like healthcare, finance and legal.

According to Scott White, product lead at Anthropic:

"Anthropic introduced the Team plan now in response to growing demand from enterprise customers who want to deploy Claude’s advanced AI capabilities across their organizations."

"The Team plan is designed for businesses of all sizes and industries that want to give their employees access to Claude’s language understanding and generation capabilities in a controlled and trusted environment."

This Team plan joins Anthropic’s individual premium plan, and Pro.

Unlike the Pro tier, the Team tier is aimed for teams, meaning that it allows the creation of a workspace with increased usage for members, as well as tools for managing users and billing.

Anthropic said that the Team tier delivers "greater usage per user," and that it also enables users to benefit from a "significantly increase" in the number of chats they can have with Claude.

Lastly, Anthropic also announced the release of Claude on mobile, where users can interact with it like a chatbot, and also upload photos straight to the app for "image analysis."

Scott White, product manager at Anthropic, said that many Claude users have been accessing the AI models through the mobile web, which led Anthropic to offer an app version of the AI.

The app is initially introduced for iOS, with White saying that his company plans on releasing an Android version soon.

It's worth noting that Anthropic is a little late with its mobile app.

OpenAI’s ChatGPT already has its own mobile app, while Gemini by Google can be found in the Google app for iPhone users and its own app for Android. Smaller player like AI search platform Perplexity also has a mobile app.

Regardless, regardless of its late arrival, it's better than never, because offering a mobile app for Claude means that Anthropic is giving users easier access to the AI, which should translate to a better competition, and also a lot more users.

Before this, Claude was only available through Anthropic’s Claude.ai website, and on third-party model libraries like Amazon Bedrock, Hugging Face, or Microsoft Azure.
