As 2008 was ending, TorrentFreak released a list of the most pirated movie titles in various categories.
The first that came on the list, was the blockbuster 'Dark Knight'. The movie by Christopher Nolan leads the most pirated movies in 2008, with more than 7 million downloads on BitTorrent alone. It was revealed that many of the downloaders obtained an illegal copy of the title after they had already watched the movie in theaters.
The first attempt of pirating the movie began right after the premiere in July with a cammed version. This moment was celebrated by users from The Pirate Bay. The cammed version was then followed by a DVD-screener version in September, and DVD-quality in November.
To compile the list, TorrentFreak gathered information from several sources, including reports from all large BitTorrent trackers.
