Microsoft, the U.S. software giant, has been questioned by officials from China. The company has confirmed the investigation is related to anti-monopoly issues. Four of Microsoft's offices located in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Chengdu was investigated. Microsoft says it is "actively cooperating" with the government.
In May, China banned its government offices from installing Windows 8 on their computers. At the time, the ban is meant to ensure computer security after Microsoft ended support for its Windows XP operating system, which is widely used on the mainland.
The Chinese government officially opened an anti-monopoly probe against the U.S.-based software giant. The Chinese officials interviewed Microsoft senior executives, as well as those in finance and "other departments". Investigators also collected Microsoft internal documents and communications, financial statements and emails.
The raid showed that China is suspicious that Microsoft may be breaking its anti-monopoly rule.
