The World In Having 5,000 Cryptocurrency ATMs

With cryptocurrency adoption and usage growing, so as the number of cryptocurrency ATMs worldwide.

As of June 1, 2019, there were 4,858 cryptocurrency ATMs online around the world. And that number surpassed 5,000 in June 26th, that according to data from CoinATMradar.com.

The cryptocurrency ATM manufacturer General Bytes was the one that experienced the most growth, having installed 69 new machines since the start of the month. Genesis Coin put 24 new machines online, while Lamassu and Bitaccess added a 13 and 11 cryptocurrency ATMs, respectively.

The country that has the most cryptocurrency ATMs, is the U.S., which commands 60% of all cryptocurrency ATMs in the world. This is followed by Canada, with 12.4%. What this means, North America alone is responsible for more than 70% of all cryptocurrency ATMs.

Europe on the other hand, has 22% of all cryptocurrency ATMs, while in Asia, just 2%.

Overall, cryptocurrency ATM machines are already available in around 90 countries, allowing holders of the digital coins to either buy or sell Bitcoins, with some machines offer both services simultaneously.

The first cryptocurrency ATM that went online, was in a Canadian coffee shop on October 29, 2013, and by the end of that day, 81 people visited the machine to trade their cash for Bitcoin or vice versa.

According to BATM it is estimated that there are at least 6.3 new ATM machines installed everyday, with the number keep on growing.

Increasing competition in the cryptocurrency market is predicted to reduce the fees charged to users, which tend to be noticeably higher than online alternatives.

Other in-person options, such as buying vouchers, are also gaining popularity with users keen on avoiding identity requirements.
