YouTuber Uncovered A Horror: The Cut Ashley Graham Of 'Resident Evil 4' Prologue That Never Made It

Resident Evil fans have long known that big games like the 2023 Resident Evil 4 Remake often leave intriguing content on the cutting room floor, but a recent discovery by modder and YouTuber Thekempy has brought one such gem back to life in stunning detail.

Diving deep into the game's files, Thekempy pieced together "Chapter 0," an unused prologue where players would have taken control of Ashley Graham right at the very start, offering a tense, stealth-focused glimpse into her desperate bid for freedom before Leon Kennedy ever sets foot in the village.

As Thekempy explains in his video, "Resident Evil 4 remake originally had an intro sequence where players played as Ashley Graham.

However, it was never finished and ended up being removed before release, but there are still leftover pieces of it in the game files."

Internally labeled "chapter zero," the sequence kicks off with Ashley navigating pitch-black woods at night.

"It would have started with Ashley in the woods at night," Thekempy narrates. "She stumbles upon Los Illuminatos in the middle of performing a ritual sacrifice." This chilling moment was actually teased in Capcom's October 2022 story trailer, where a brief shot shows the path Ashley treads before witnessing the horror.

Resident Evil 4 Remake has an unused chapter that isn't playable, hidden within its code.

From there, the restored footage reveals a path that's still tucked away on the game's map: complete with a fork leading toward the village, but blocked off in the final version.

Ashley would sneak past patrolling Ganados, trigger scripted events like crawling through a boarded-up hut and hiding in alcoves, and even spot a Ganado carrying Luis away.

"There are a number of leftover spawn locations for scripted events that would have happened in this chapter," Thekempy notes.

"I am unable to restore all of their functionality, but I can tell you what they're labelled as. There's one here for the spawn of a Ganado who would begin walking around, and Ashley has to sneak past him."

The tension builds to a frantic chase, with Ashley's animations shifting to panicked running as she's eventually spotted and captured, seamlessly handing off to Leon's iconic village assault.

Though cutscenes are missing, causing crashes when triggered, and Ashley lacks a flashlight (Thekempy maxes brightness and speculates she might have used her phone's light), the leftover autosaves, triggers, and spawns paint a vivid picture of a narrative-driven opener focused on vulnerability and stealth.

Glimpses of this sequence also appear in the June 2022 State of Play announcement trailer, including the cutscene of Ashley's capture and transport to the church, hinting it was axed relatively late in development.

So why did Capcom pull it?

Thekempy offers a spot-on speculation: "It isn't hard to imagine why they removed this intro section, considering how much it would have slowed down the beginning of an otherwise very replayable game. But it is still cool to see roughly what it would have been."

The remake's blistering opening village fight sets an immediate tone of high-stakes action, and inserting a slower, non-combat stealth segment for the defenseless Ashley might have disrupted that momentum, especially for a game praised for its tight pacing and replayability.

The Resident Evil community has lit up with excitement over the reveal, with fans on YouTube lamenting its loss while praising its potential as a demo or bonus unlock.

One top comment notes, "This section would have been great as a Demo, like the one we got for RE7," while another adds, "Narratively, removing this hurt. From a gameplay perspective, it was smart."

It's a perfect reminder of the iterative magic behind Capcom's survival horror masterpieces, where tough calls like this help refine pacing for modern audiences.

Ashley Graham, the daughter of the U.S. President, is kidnapped by a cult, and main protagonist Leon S. Kennedy is sent to rescue her.

Resident Evil 4 Remake is the remake of the original Resident Evil 4, a survival horror third-person action-shooter game that made its debut in 2005.

The remake is pretty much the same as the original. Despite enhancements and a little tweak here and there, the game is already highly-praised. Just like the original Resident Evil 4, gamers just love the dynamic shooting action-horror game with the over-the-shoulder perspective.

It received critical acclaim and sold more than three million copies in two days.

Now, with Resident Evil Requiem, the ninth mainline entry, is set to return players back into Raccoon City, this peek into RE4's alternate history feels especially timely. Promising dual protagonists with contrasting gameplay styles likened to "jumping into a cold bath after a hot sauna," Requiem has fans buzzing for more surprises from Capcom's ever-evolving nightmare factory.
