Dark Blue Labs and Vision Factory for Google

Google has expanded its artificial intelligence research team by acquiring two Oxford University spin-off companies that specialize in machine learning and computer vision.

The two companies, Dark Blue Labs and Vision Factory, with their key researchers, are added to DeepMind, a London-based artificial intelligence company that Google acquired in January.

"We are thrilled to welcome these extremely talented machine learning researchers to the Google DeepMind team and are excited about the potential impact of the advances their research will bring," wrote Demis Hassabis, co-founder of DeepMind.

Dark Blue Labs specializes in deep learning for understanding natural language. Vision Factory specializes in visual recognition systems and deep learning, applying artificial intelligence techniques to enhance the accuracy and speed of object recognition and other vision-based computer systems.
