IBM's closing value of $214 billion, surpassing Microsoft which was valued at $213.2 billion. It was the first time since1996 that IBM exceeded its rival based on closing price.
At that time, Microsoft has had a difficult time, notably at the launch of Windows 8 and its struggle with mobile competition against Google and Apple.
