When Vulnerability Met a Fetish Website: The Case of Sonia Exelby

In an age when loneliness and untreated mental distress can drive people deep into anonymous online spaces, the line between fantasy and irreversible harm sometimes dissolves with little warning.

For some, those digital corners become places where private pain is mirrored and intensified by others who offer not help but fulfillment of the very impulses that endanger life.

One such story centers on a young British music tutor whose long struggle with isolation and suicidal thoughts led her across an ocean into a weekend that ended in a shallow grave in a woodland in Marion Oaks, Florida.

She voluntarily asked for death.

It was her wish, and it was painful.

Sonia Exelby, the youngest of six siblings and known to her family as Lamby, spent her early childhood in foster care before being adopted into a stable home in Portchester, Hampshire.

There she grew up surrounded by ordinary family rhythms of sailing trips and caravanning, learning piano, guitar, and flute from her grandparents and excelling quietly in school choir at South Downs College.

Friends and relatives later described her as softly spoken, intensely affectionate, a gifted pianist and singer with a calming presence, and someone who chose veganism because the idea of causing any animal suffering was unbearable to her.

She shared 15 years with her partner Stevie, taught music to her nieces and nephews, and worked as a music tutor, building a life that those closest to her remembered for its gentleness and lack of judgment.

By her late 20s and early 30s that life had narrowed.

Depression, body dysmorphia, and related eating disorders intensified.

She withdrew into her Portsmouth flat, spent more time in video games and online forums, and at times went online to visit websites devoted to suicide.

In 2023 she opened an account on the hardcore fetish site Motherless.com under the username Already Yours. There she began exchanging messages with a user calling himself alphasadist, a man about 20 years older then her, and lived near Ocala, Florida.

His real name, Dwain Chadwick Hall, was in his early 50s, worked in roadside assistance after earlier pizza delivery jobs. He was married with a young stepson, had previous arrests for escape and trespass, and identified as a pagan with an interest in Anubis.

Over nearly two years of contact, the overall context of their two-year online contact on the fetish site involved discussions of bondage, suicide, and her expressed desire to be harmed.

Dwain fullfiled her desires, framing himself as a mentor.

The two then attempted to meet in real life.

In early October 2025, she flew from London Heathrow to Gainesville Regional Airport, having told her partner she would be staying with family. Dwain picked her up from the airport, made a stop at Walmart, and bought a shovel, rope, paracord, and gun-cleaning supplies, and then drove to an isolated Airbnb she had booked near Reddick.

Inside the rental, they had sexual intercourse.

But this was when things became twisted.

Dwain recorded a roughly four-minute video in which she appeared heavily bruised and dishevelled.

In the footage, she stated she had come voluntarily to die, described herself as an awful person who had crushed everyone who loved her, and said she was not being forced.

Separate messages she sent to an online acquaintance that weekend described her phone being taken, the absence of any easy way out unless she shot him, her fear and physical pain, and the sense that her time was up.

Funds totaling about $1,200 were taken from her accounts.

Sania's family first became suspicious when they heard Sania telling them that she believed she had uncovered evidence of American men harming vulnerable women and intended to travel to the U.S..

They alerted police, but no charges were made.

It was on October 17, where search teams found her body in a shallow grave in woodland near a highway in the Marion Oaks area.

The medical examiner recorded four stab wounds that struck major organs including the aorta, esophagus, and stomach. Forensics suggest that her blood matched the blood stain on a customized knife Hall had mailed to a contact in Ohio.

DNA from both of them was found on a shovel recovered from his home.

Dwain, in police custody, claimed he "didn't want to," described grabbing her around the throat as "light bondage." He also said that he did not use ropes, and characterized the sex encounter as "vanilla." Other accounts of the interrogation however, reference him describing "rough sex."

But he also admitted that it was during this time, that Sania expressed her wish for someone to kill her.

At one point, Sonia even offered him thousands of dollars toward an IRS debt.

These admissions of their twisted relationship, sit alongside the video he recorded of her, in which she appeared bruised and stated she had come to die, and the messages she sent describing fear, her phone being taken, and pain.

Dwain was first arrested on credit-card fraud charges linked to her accounts, and later charged with first-degree murder and kidnapping.

He pleaded not guilty and is held without bond.

During interrogation he initially denied knowing her, admitted the sex and the light bondage, but said that everything was her idea. His wife has defended aspects of his character publicly while acknowledging the betrayal.

Sonia's siblings, including Gemma Isaj, Barry Wilton, and Luke Wilton, described Sonia's death as leaving an emptiness that will never be filled.

They contend the two-year online relationship amounted to grooming of a vulnerable person who also hoped to expose such sites, and they have launched a GoFundMe so relatives can travel to the Florida trial.

Any surplus is to go to a mental health charity in her name. They want the websites involved removed and the maximum sentence if he is convicted.

Before the court decided the case, Dwain is presumed innocent until proven otherwise.

What the documented timeline, recovered messages, video, forensic evidence, and family accounts already establish is the scale of the harm that followed years of private distress meeting prolonged contact with someone prepared to act on it.

Sonia Exelby's life, marked by musical talent and a rare capacity for quiet kindness, closed in circumstances that continue to devastate those who loved her and that illustrate how thoroughly isolation and digital spaces can reshape the trajectory of a vulnerable person.
