The first virus that was deleted by an antivirus program was Vienna. The virus was a DOS program that infected computers from the late 1980s. When the virus infects a machine, Vienna that came with hundreds of variant, searches for .com files and corrupts one of them. The seconds on the infected file's timestamp will read "62" which is an impossible value. This made the files easy to find.
The virus will then destroy one of the several files it had infected by overwriting the first few bytes with new hex characters instructing a warm reboot when the program is run.
Rolf Burger sent a copy of the virus to Bernt Fix, who managed to stop the virus and destroyed it.
