As harrowing things can be, sometimes, life is just not fair for some people.
Pasya Pratiwi Toiti, a young girl from Gorontalo, on the island of Sulawesi, Indonesia, a student from Madrasah Aliyah Negeri (MAN) 1 Gorontalo, became the center of a viral scandal.
The video in question shows inappropriate behavior between a female student with a hijab, and a male teacher.
This is where things become more disturbing, when the girl and the teacher engage in sexual intercourse. Everything is recorded, as things got leaked afterwards.
Pasya, who was also a member of OSIS (student council) chairperson at her school, was expelled from MAN 1 following the virality of the scandal.
The viral video depicts a room, seemingly some room somewhere in the school, where a camera has been placed on one side of the wall. Then, the man that goes with the initial DH, is seen pulling his trousers down, while Pasya is kissing him.
After than, the student is seen giving her teacher fellatio.
Pasya is then seen lying on the floor, receive cunnilingus, before engaging in coitus with the 58-year-old man.
The video that went viral on the internet, is around 5 minutes long, and ends as man allegedly finishes.
The video went viral after rumors swirls on social media platforms like TikTok, suggesting that a young girl's sex tape with a much, much older man was leaking on the internet.
In an unexpected turn of event, Pasha, who is considered a victim in this case, created a social media post to show her side of the story.
At first, she asked netizens not to judge her based on the video alone.
The former student of MAN 1 said that she was having a difficult life after she was abandoned by her parents. But despite that, she managed to pursue her studies, with a dream of becoming an undergraduate.
In her post, she then explained how the harassment began with inappropriate verbal comments from the perpetrator.
"At the time, I didn’t take it too seriously. But over time, it escalated to physical contact, like touching my shoulder, putting an arm around me, and more," revealed Pasha.
She also mentioned that she misunderstood the teacher's intentions, initially thinking that his actions were a fatherly display of affection.
As the harassment worsened, she felt confused and didn't know who to turn to.
Pasha also worried that if she were expelled from school, her dreams would be shattered.
In her closing statement, Pasha apologized if there were any misunderstandings regarding the video that had circulated and hoped that she would not be judged solely based on that brief recording.
However, after Pasha clarification video went viral across social media platforms, the police stated that her clarification was false.
The Head of the Women and Child Protection Office (Kadis PPA) of Gorontalo, Yana Yanti Sulaeman, said that the victim no longer has access to a phone, meaning that the clarification video was indeed a hoax.
Pasha's parents also said that their child is now off the grid, and no longer have access to social media.
This is where the police start to think, that the two were actually in a romantic relationship, a mutual relationship for both sides.
Allegedly, the two have been in this forbidden romance since 2022, and that the two had been engaging in sex for at least 22 times.
"The suspect often used the tactic of offering extra help and attention to the victim, particularly in academic activities at school, which made the victim feel comfortable," said Gorontalo Police Chief, AKBP Deddy Herman.
But the man's goal was to make Pasya his sex slave.
The idea was to make the 17-year-old girl available to fulfill his desires whenever he wished and pleased.
In connection with the inappropriate relationship case between the teacher and the student in Gorontalo, the investigators have seized several pieces of evidence, including a school uniform, the hijab, skirt, pants, jacket, and a cap.
Following the virality of the video, Deddy stated that the victim's psychological condition has been affected, experiencing trauma and shame after the video of her intimate relationship with the suspect went viral on social media.
"The victim has suffered trauma, fear, and shame from being sexually exploited, which eventually led to the incident going viral," he said.
He added that DH was named a suspect after investigators interviewed eight witnesses and the complainant.
Due to his actions, DH could be charged under child protection laws.
"The penalty is a minimum of 5 years and a maximum of 15 years in prison, with an additional one-third due to the suspect being an educator," he emphasized.
He explained that DH knew that the victim is an orphan, which made her more vulnerable to his ill attention.
In addition to criminal charges, DH has been suspended from his teaching position at Madrasah Aliyah Negeri (MAN) 1 in Gorontalo.
In response to the case, the Head of the DP3A (Dinas Pemberdayaan Perempuan dan Perlindungan Anak, or Office of Women's Empowerment and Child Protection) for the Gorontalo Regency, Zascamelya Uno, issued a stern warning to MAN Gorontalo.
According to Zascamelya, the school must not expel the student involved in the explicit video case, especially since Pasha is already in her senior year.
"We will coordinate with the school and ensure that this student continues to receive her education, as she is already in 12th grade," said Zascamelya, as quoted on September 30, 2024.
She emphasized that the victim's right to education is paramount and must be upheld.
The school is not allowed to expel the student, as that would effectively deny her right to education.
"The Child Protection Law ensures that, regardless of the decision, this remains the child's right," she emphasized.
She also mentioned that they will conduct an assessment with a psychologist to first focus on the student's emotional recovery.
"We have already provided support. Clearly, there is trauma because the case has gone public," she added.
As for how the video was uploaded to the internet, the police said that they're still investigating the case.
Investigators are looking for the leaker, who recorded and shared the explicit video.
"We don’t yet know who recorded and first distributed the video, but for now, we are focusing on handling this case," Deddy explained.
Deddy confirmed that this case has become a priority for his team.
This incident has sparked widespread public reaction and discussions.
Much of the debate following the viral video centers on the safety and well-being of students within educational institutions. It also serves as a stark reminder of how the internet can be a harsh, even unforgiving space, without siding with anyone.
As a teacher, DH should never have exploited his student for his own sexual desires, as doing so has undeniably harmed the student's future. Moreover, Pasha was a talented student at her school.
Despite claims that the relationship was consensual, many people are condemning the situation, emphasizing that a teacher's role is to be a guide and a moral example in society, not to take advantage of vulnerable students.
