While many coronavirus 'COVID-19' vaccines have been distributed, many parts of the world are still struggling to contain the virus. But that doesn't mean businesses must halt.
At least not on the financial side, and particularly, not for Visa.
The American multinational financial services corporation that facilitates electronic funds transfers throughout the world, most commonly through Visa-branded credit cards, debit cards and prepaid cards, is seeing huge gains following the start of 2022.
The company beats Wall Street's quarterly estimates as more international travel and e-commerce drove an increase spending volumes.
The company detailed this in its Reports Fiscal First Quarter 2022, at its quarterly earnings call.

Visa experienced this, as the company that is considered one of the largest payments processors in the world, rose 21% to $47.6 billion during the quarter compared with a year earlier.
This happened as cross-border volumes rose 40%, during a steep increase in travel spending seen September and November, just as the U.S. border and most of the borders within Europe reopened.
As countries relax their border restrictions, consumers seem to rush to make up for years of lost opportunities.
While travel spending has stalled since the end of 2021 due to COVID-19's Omicron variant, executives at Visa believe that people will spend more as recovery will continue.
Visa's chief financial officer, Vasant Prabhu, said that even if countries reinstate border closures this 2022 due to new COVID-19 variants, spending appears to rebound quickly when consumers can travel.
"(Open borders) can have a sizable and immediate impact," Prabhu said. "Our assumption is for steady improvement through the year."
"The upside is going to come from the continued recovery of travel and the affluent customer getting back in the mix of spending at the levels they were pre-pandemic,” Visa Chairman and Chief Executive Alfred Kelly said on a call with analysts.
And not just that, as Visa was also seeing users making $2.5 billion in payments with cryptocurrency-connected cards during the time, Kelly said.
The figure for the quarter was an immense 70% of Visa’s cryptocurrency volume for all of fiscal 2021, which ended on September. 30, 2021.
Kelly added that more than 65 cryptocurrency platforms and exchanges have partnered to issue Visa credentials.
In total, more than 100 million vendors in the Visa network are accepting Visa's cryptocurrency payments, the company added.
Kelly continued to say that Visa continues to "lean into the crypto space" and to improve areas such as connectivity, scale, consumer value propositions, reliability and security for cryptocurrency offerings to continue growing.
“Many current trends in payments, including … crypto, and wallets, are enabling new ways to pay. These represent opportunities for Visa,” said Kelly.
To further strengthen its business in the cryptocurrency market, Visa has formed a global cryptocurrency advisory practice to help financial institutions develop their cryptocurrency businesses as demand for cryptocurrency-related products continues to grow.

Visa's net revenue rose to $7.1 billion in the three months ended December. 31, an increase of 24% over the prior year.
Visa reported profit of $3.9 billion, or $1.81 per share.
As a result of these, shares of Visa Inc. surged.
Visa’s stock V, -0.80% ended up 10.6% in the session to log its largest single-day percentage gain since April 6, 2020, and marked Visa’s largest post-earnings gain on record, going back to the company’s 2008 initial public offering.
This kind of gain is unusual for Visa’s stock, which usually closed with a daily gain upwards of 10% in four trading sessions over the past decade.
In particular, things were difficult for Visa during 2020, when the market crashed during the volatile trading days early in the COVID-19 pandemic.
Besides Visa, rival companies Mastercard and American Express also reported that they beat quarterly profit estimates.
